EPP UNITED KINGDOM
After a frank and opportune conversation with Susan Olesek on the tail end of the 2017 IEA Global Conference in Helsinki, Christine Adames rolled up her sleeves and decided to put a stake in the ground for EPP to bring its program to her neck of the woods in the United Kingdom.
Simultaneously, a type Four prison chaplain named Alan Hodgetts, who adores "his" incarcerated folks more than the Enneagram itself, dashed his worries and crossed the Atlantic to become a certified teacher with The Narrative Enneagram, one of our partnering schools. Along the way, Sam Ewell, a fellow American living in Birmingham and working as a prison chaplain joined the ranks of EPP's board as a public charity in the UK and just like that EPP UK was born!

The EPP UK team has focused on the following three key areas:
- Training the first cohort of UK Guides;
- Establishing our affiliate charity;
- Working with the prison service.
In March 2019 five UK based applicants began the EPP Guide training programme, which consisted of an 8-week online training, a four-day practicum in the US and a week of intensive training in a UK jail. The highlight of the U.S. trip was an opportunity to deliver some of the curriculum to 60 men in San Quentin State Prison. It was inspiring to see EPP Founder Susan Olesek and her team ‘in action’ and to experience the impact of this work firsthand.
In June the U.S. based faculty visited the UK to conduct a pilot programme at HMP Woodhill (in Milton Keynes) as part of the ‘apprenticeship’ component of our training. We have recently completed a second programme at Woodhill, and have a third in planning for HMP Holme House (Stockton on Tees) in the New Year.
Enneagram Prison Project UK is now actively recruiting volunteers to assist in the next stage of our development. We are keen to hear from anyone interested in becoming a trustee of the charity, or who can assist in the following areas: marketing and communications; finance and fundraising; administration; and/or working in the criminal justice system.

We would also welcome volunteers to take part in our online panel sessions in order to practice this key part of our curriculum.

"EPP UK is my heartfelt response to a calling that is difficult to put into words. A deep resonance. Over the years I have been drawn to working with organisations and individuals on the margins of society. I have followed EPP since the beginning and truly feel this is powerful and sacred work
My life's experience,values and beliefs all came together in a brief conversation with Susan at the end of the Enneagram conference in 2017. I was in the right place, at the right time. The Enneagram has been fundamental in my own growth and a constant source of insight. Out of the darkness comes light. Everyone deserves an opportunity to deeply experience this. Everyone."
